Introduction to EDP

The EDP (Enhanced Device Protocol) is a fully open TCP-based protocol customized in the OneNET platform according to the IoT features. It can be widely used in household, transportation, logistics, energy and other industry applications.

Typical application scenarios

The EDP protocol is applicable to the scenarios in which the device and platform need to maintain long connection and point-to-point control. The TCP-based protocol is applicable only to data packet transmission to the destination, and does not guarantee that the transmission sequence is the same as the arrival sequence. The transaction mechanism needs to be implemented at the upper layer. If the client initiates two requests at the same time, the server will return messages without guaranteeing the sequence of return messages. The EDP protocol is suitable for long connection reporting, transparent transmission, forwarding, storage and active issuing of data.

Take precision agriculture as an example. The terminal device can upload environmental data such as the air temperature and humidity, light intensity, soil temperature and humidity, pH value, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium nutrition value of the monitored area through the EDP protocol, and OneNET can push the data to the user’s application server. The user can analyze such data via the expert system, and use the facilities (e.g. fill lights, fans, awnings and spray irrigation facilities) connected to the controls to achieve automatic and intelligent regulation and control, thus maintaining the optimal environment of crop growth and improving the efficiency and yield.
